This special edition 1098 S is dressed in the Italian national flag colors of red, white and green called Tricolore. The Ducati ’Tricolore’ tradition began in 1985 with the stunning 750 F1 and then continued with the limited edition 851. Total production of this special Tricolore Ducati was limited to 1275 units and only manufactured in 2007 (300 shipped to USA) and 2008. In 2007 there were 3 models of superbike to choose from the 1098, 1098S, and the 1098 Tricolore. The Tricolore was the moto to race and at a price oft $24,950.00 compared to the 1098S at $19,995.00 it came at a cost!
Why more, besides the paint job? The Ducati 1098 S Tricolore has a L-Twin cylinder, 4 valve per cylinder Desmodromic engine and an exhaust system that is a lightweight 2-1-2 system with catalytic converter and lambda probe. It also includes a twin stainless system with a 102 dB Termignoni racing muffler kit in carbon fiber complete with dedicated ECU which adds a additional 8% to the horsepower (approx.172 max HP with a dry weight of 377 pounds) and shaves 20 pounds off the total weight. The 1098 was designed by Ducati designer, Giandrea Fabbro.
In 2008 the 1098R would ship with a 1198CC motor and a price of $39,950.00, granted it also has 20 more horsepower with 190, it was the future of Ducati in World Superbike racing going on to take multiple championships.
